Israel is a small country, but boasts a prominent art scene. Most of the Art Galleries and exhibition spaces are situated in Tel-Aviv and Jerusalem, but there are art spaces in the peripheral edges of Israel as well – centered in Haifa, Safed and Rosh Pinna at the north, and Beersheba at the south.
As the Israeli budget for arts and culture is quite limited, most of the Israeli art galleries are commercial galleries. There are few examples of artist collectives or cooperatives joining together to form alternative art spaces and galleries, most of them working as non-profit initiatives.
